     As an international student in Bristol, I've realised that no restaurant can perfectly recreate a home-cooked meal. But every now and then, you find a place where the flavours, aromas, and warmth make you feel a little closer to home. If you're curious about Nepalese cuisine or you're from Nepal and craving something familiar, these are a few places worth checking out in Bristol.

Nepali Chulo

    If you're looking for authentic, home-style Nepalese food, Nepali Chulo is a good place to start. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the menu is packed with comforting classics. 

What to order: I'd recommend trying their steamed Momo, Dal-Bhat set, or a hearty bowl of Thukpa, perfect for those days when you just need a comforting meal.

Third Eye Restaurant & Bar

   A favourite among both locals and international students, Third Eye offers a mix of Nepalese and Indian cuisine in a cosy setting. It's a great place to visit with friends when you're introducing them to Nepalese food.

What to order: Their chicken Momo, heritage newa-khaja set, and chicken curry with lamb are a must-try, or the incredibly flavourful chicken choila and traditional grand nepali thali.

Yak Shack @The Pipe and Slippers

📍118 Cheltenham Road, Montpellier, Bristol BS6 5RW

   If you're introducing friends to Nepalese street food, Yak Shack is a great place to start. Located inside The Pipe & Slippers pub, it serves a menu inspired by the flavours of the Himalayas with a modern twist. It's a relaxed spot that's ideal for a casual meal after classes or a catch-up with friends.

What to order: You can’t go wrong with their chicken Momo, lamb skewers, and chickpea fritters. If you’re after something more filling, the Nepalese-style curries are your perfect choice.

Yak Yeti Yak (Bath – Worth the Day Trip)

     If you're ever planning a day trip from Bristol to Bath, Yak Yeti Yak is well worth adding to your itinerary. This long-standing Nepalese restaurant is loved for its authentic home-cooked flavours, welcoming atmosphere, and unique dishes that are hard to find elsewhere. 

What to order: First-time visitors and Nepalese food lovers alike rave about the chicken momo, Bhuteko Bhat, and pork bhutuwa, while the Marpha Orchard cocktail is one of the restaurant's signature drinks. And if you still have room after your meal, don't miss the chiya ice cream or kesariko dahi– they're favourites among returning customers and the perfect way to end your visit.
