Bristol Black Futures
Bristol Black Futures stands as a landmark initiative at the University of Bristol- the first society dedicated exclusively to advancing the career development and professional growth of Black students. Our aims: We aim to provide a safe, empowering space for students to develop the skills, confidence and connections needed to cultivate Black excellence. We deliver a forward-thinking approach to professional development- From how to build wealth early by investing with entry-level salaries to understanding the fundamentals of equity compensation, leveraging global black networking platforms and many other opportunities for growth. Whether you want to improve your skills in digital literacy beyond LinkedIn or want to gain corporate insight from Black career giants, we are on a mission to cultivate Black excellence and that begins with you.
Bristol Commercial Law Society
The University of Bristol Commercial Law Society, previously the Bristol Commercial Awareness Society, was founded in 2018, pivoting around students interested in law, business and finance. We intend to promote meaningful engagement with commercial affairs to equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to apply and demonstrate your understanding of dynamic business environments to further enhance your employability. As a student-led organisation, we want to help students bridge the gap between academic study and the commercial realities of legal and corporate practice. Our key events include: Competitions - with skills-based commercial awareness competitions, including intensive negotiations and case studies. Careers - Direct access to career panel talks detailing securing training contracts and first-year schemes. Skills - Developing the precise commercial awareness capabilities highly sought by top firms.
Bristol Data Science & Artifical Intelligence Society (BDSS)
A society oriented around the field of data science and artificial intelligence with its main objectives to be: (1) informing and training students on the growing field of data science and artificial intelligence, (2) guiding members to their first step towards a career in the field, and (3) providing a platform connect with like-minded data science and artificial intelligence enthusiasts. We achieve this by organising programming workshops, hosting seminars led by industry experts, participating in data science competitions (e.g. Kaggle), keeping our members up-to-date on current AI/DS/ML news via our social media, and running events such as Datathons and socials!
Bristol Folk House
The Bristol Folk House is the oldest adult education centre in the city, with its origins dating back to 1887. Since 1963, we have been delivering an adult educational programme from our unique, purpose built, mid century building on Park Street. Our diverse programme offers courses and workshops from languages to leatherwork, with 900 offerings, which serve over 9,000 people a year. The majority of our programme is suitable for absolute beginners and we believe strongly in our founding ethos of ‘learning for pleasure’. As well as opportunities to learn, we have a carefully curated music and live events programme of gigs, talks, and festivals. Our offer covers live music, exhibitions, author talks, photography socials, and stand up comedy. Our café serves delicious food and drinks from local suppliers and provides a welcoming space to relax, meet friends, or gather before and after classes.
